66th Festival de Cannes

66th Cannes Film Festival

The opening of Cannes Film Festival was filled with press conferences, red carpets, photo calls and interviews with the stars. Carey Mulligan was there wearing Dior to represent Baz Luhrman’s film, The Great Gatsby. Dior took center stage in the wardrobe department. Raf Simons designed the ravishing haute couture creations worn by four ladies at the opening ceremony. Nicole Kidman, Carey Mulligan, Zhang Ziyi and Julianne Moore were all dressed in style and elegance for the event.

The Great Gatsby starlet, Carey Mulligan wore a Dior Haute Couture blush matte satin duchesse gown during the opening ceremony. This dress looks stunning on Mulligan especially with the pop of red lipstick making a fashion statement full of elegance.

Zhang Ziyi

Zhang Ziyi

Zhang Ziyi wore a Christian Dior embroidered tulle bustier dress in pink velvet and Haute Couture blue slim wool trousers. Actress Zhang Ziyi is one of the jurors for this year’s Cannes Film Festival. With one red-carpet event after another, she most likely came prepared with an extensive wardrobe. Every event she has seemingly had a different hairstyle for each appearance. Her styles have ranged from a stylized pixie look, a pulled-back chignon and a sleek updo. Here is a view of the stars change-up dos.

The Cannes film festival, the world’s largest, draws thousands of movie stars, industry executives and journalists to the fabled resort on the Mediterranean. Jewelers and fashion houses use the annual event as a promotional showcase, lending gowns and accessories to celebrities who are photographed on the red carpet and at parties along the palm-lined Croisette waterfront. When word broke out that a safe holding $1 million in Chopard jewels went missing, it was very ironic. The same evening Sofia Coppola’s new movie “The Bling Ring”, about a gang of celebrity-obsessed teens who break into stars’ homes to steal their possessions, premiered at Cannes.

The news was so timely it practically seemed like creative guerrilla marketing.

What do you think? Was it was planned?
